Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect
CopCheck collects the following data:
- Search queries: We track search counts per user or per anonymous session to enforce daily quota limits. We do not store the content of your searches for anonymous users.
- Account information: When you create an account via Clerk, we store your email address and user ID for authentication and account management.
- Payment information: If you subscribe to a paid tier, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription ID but never store your credit card number or payment details directly.
- Case file data: If you use Case Files, we store the officers you save, your case file names, and any notes you add. This data is associated with your user account.
2. What We Do Not Collect
We do not log IP addresses for anonymous searches. Anonymous users are tracked only by a session-level counter for quota enforcement, which resets daily. We do not use third-party analytics trackers. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Watermarking Disclosure
Premium PDF exports include the requesting user's email address as a watermark on every page. This watermark is rendered in light gray at reduced opacity and is intended for traceability to deter unauthorized redistribution. By using the PDF export feature, you acknowledge and consent to this watermarking practice.
4. Cookie Policy
CopCheck uses cookies solely for authentication purposes via Clerk. These are strictly necessary cookies required for the service to function. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or any third-party cookies for analytics or profiling.
5. Data Retention
Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data, Case Files, and associated records within 30 days. Aggregated, non-identifiable usage statistics may be retained indefinitely for service improvement.
6. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication via Clerk, and encrypted payment processing via Stripe. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights (CCPA / GDPR)
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:
- Right to access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to deletion: Request that we delete your personal data.
- Right to correction: Request that we correct inaccurate personal data.
- Right to portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to opt out: Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@copcheck.app. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
CopCheck is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. The date of the most recent revision is indicated at the top of this page.
