1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using CopCheck, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the service. We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Continued use of CopCheck after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
2. Data Usage
CopCheck is intended for personal and professional research purposes only. This includes journalistic investigation, legal defense preparation, community safety research, and individual awareness. All data displayed on CopCheck is sourced from publicly available records published by state Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) commissions and similar regulatory bodies.
3. Prohibited Activities
You may not use CopCheck to:
- Redistribute, resell, or sublicense any data obtained from the platform
- Export data in bulk or systematically scrape the service using automated tools, bots, or scripts
- Share your account credentials with others or allow multiple individuals to use a single account
- Use the data to harass, stalk, or threaten any individual
- Misrepresent data obtained from CopCheck or present it out of context
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent any technical protections, rate limits, or access controls
- Use the API tier to build a competing product or service
Violation of any of these terms may result in immediate account termination without refund.
4. No Refunds
All subscription payments are non-refundable. You may cancel at any time to prevent future billing, but no partial or full refunds will be issued for the current billing period or any prior period. Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis until cancelled.
5. Account Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for any violation of these Terms of Service. This includes but is not limited to bulk scraping, credential sharing, data redistribution, or any activity that undermines the integrity or availability of the service. Upon termination, your access to all premium features and saved data (including Case Files) will be revoked.
6. Data Accuracy
CopCheck aggregates data from public records sources. While we strive for accuracy, records may contain errors, may be outdated, or may not reflect the current status of an officer. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy, completeness, or current status of any record. Always verify information directly with the issuing agency before relying on any record for legal, employment, journalistic, or any other consequential purpose. If you believe a record is incorrect, please use our correction form or contact corrections@copcheck.app.
7. Limitation of Liability
CopCheck is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CopCheck and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (a) your access to or use of or inability to access or use the service; (b) any conduct or content of any third party on the service; or (c) any content obtained from the service.
8. Privacy
We do not log IP addresses for anonymous searches. We do track usage metrics for quota enforcement purposes. Authenticated users have their search counts tracked to enforce daily limits per their subscription tier. For full details on our data practices, see our Privacy Policy. Premium PDF exports include the requesting user's email address as a watermark for traceability.
